Umbral Lover

Always behind you,
to catch you when you fall.
A shadow can't be blue,
but he can love you as he follows on the wall.
Quiet adoration, ready to hold
you in a soft embrace so wings needn't unfold.

Don't fly away, he'll follow you on land.
When you hit the ground cast a glance to where you stand.
See your shadow waiting patiently for you,
bound so skilled in a knot that the greatest hands can not undo.
The quiet guardian ready to love,
as you enjoy that world above.
He sits and waits for you to come back.
The lover of shadows is calm in his world of black.

This shadow is ready embrace, to feel the hands of lady divine.
Just waiting it out, giving her time to shine.
Patience a virtue, one he has known.
He sees her there just wishing to tell her she's not alone.
He sits, the darkness encompassing him.
Sadly he cannot feel her with any limb.

She knows he is there,
for she is ever aware.
She speaks to him, when the sun has fallen away from the sky.
Telling him of the dance she does, and how often she must lie.
He listens, always remaining the caring friend.
Wishing to have something greater by the time he reaches the end.

For now he dances behind her, watching her move.
