a terrible price for peace

My love,
I hope you can hear
from your perch so far above
the silent ashen tear
that streaks across my cheek
The vultures circle overhead
the wasted burnt out pillar
of my verdent dreams now dead
though the grassy plain shines as far
as my listless eyes can seek
the dried up husk before me now
the lush green plains before, how
can my dreams end so suddenly
my terrible price for their victory

Author notes

aw it's so beautiful! i'm sure it's what thousands of people feel everyday, and i think you captured the emotions really really well.

to think that some governments actually believe that death and war are going to bring peace... if that had been true, then considering the wars the world has had...it should be a pretty damn peaceful place, then shouldnt it?

i like how the poem is sad, but at the very end, it treads just slightly into "rueful" territory, with the line "my terrible price for their victory" . (thats just my interpretation, anyways) and i think thats really effective, because it really leaves you thinking.

    thanks for entering!
