Stoplights blink, though no cars
are there to wait for their turn.
In the icy wind eyes leak tears
and exposed cheeks begin to burn.
Cats on laps make lazy heat
as eyes blink, watching the streets
become covered most thoroughly
with snow in endless shiny sheets.
Cocoa steams on a windowsill,
fogging up windows glazed with ice.
World closes itself into a ball. . .
going out is a bitter sacrifice.
Cats and cocoa rule the day
as Christmas lights twinkle in trees,
and little by little you can
watch the whole world freeze.

An Excellent Poem
This captures the perception and feelings of a cold Christmas in the form of a beautiful poem.

I am delighted to have won silver in this contest! It gave so many options. Very nice writing from the others - a very good contest.
Thank you for picking my poem for silver. -
Cats and Cocoa make the cold bearable. I hate Winter. It seems like a good way to pass the time.

I like the contrast of the cold and warm images in this Wolfheart. Just the word Cocoa sounds sweet and warm.

Cats and cocoa... some of the best things in life...

Nice rhyme! I love the imagery and descriptions. "Cats on laps make lazy heat"... I love the last line, too: "...watch the whole world freeze." Very nice way of putting it. Thanks for your entry, best wishes in the contest, and happy holidays!

SO COZY SOUNDING!!!!!
I can just picture a person sitting by a fireplace blazing away with a cup of cocoa steaming beside them and their cat all curled up on their lap.
