A Christmas Walk

Today is a cold Winter day
and I am facing into snowfall.
The wind is bitter and stings
as it reaches into my lungs
trying to suck out the air I breathe.

Yet I walk with the ease of the moment
as distant church-bells resound
for the birthday of Jesus.

From the houses to my left and right
to aroma of roasting turkeys
and gingerbread drifts
its blessing into my nose.

For a moment the moon peaks out
and a smooth blue glides off drifts
of fresh fallen snow.

The lights blink and in this moment
I am as warm as I will every be
knowing the gift of God is powerful
in the most subtle of blessings.
