‘Twas the first day of Christmas
With her new tiled floor,
Sue Lady sat smiling
For today wasn’t a bore.
Wrapping paper was flung
Through the air with such ease
“It’s the best Christmas ever!”
Sue Lady decreed.
As she just settled in
With her hot cup of Joe,
“Look there, yes that!
What’s down there below?”
One solemn present
Lie just there for her,
She couldn’t believe it
“Do I have one more turn?”
“One more present, who me?”
She exclaimed with such joy,
“Normally I wouldn’t,
But who cares? I’ll enjoy!”
What’s in it? She pondered
As she pulled at the bow,
Her excitement tingled
With a good hearty blow!
Confused and bewildered
She sat there unsure,
Did this really all happen?
Was it all just a blur?
She looked around for her answers
But for answers, came none
They all just sat smiling,
But what had she done?
She didn’t know now
What she thought she knew then,
Oh well she thought,
“Let’s try this again.”
“Holy salamander!”
Sue Lady exclaimed,
“What is this, what happened?
Won’t someone explain?”
But everyone sat there,
Still calmly and still
She didn’t want this
This was too much a thrill.
“I need to relax
And this isn’t much help,”
Today was so good,
She thought to herself.
“Alright, I’ll just do it
I’ll try just once more.
I only hope the outcome
Is much different then before.”
And with one more tug
The ribbon she let fall,
She prayed for an outcome,
Yes she gave it her all.
“Alright already,
Yes this is enough,”
Sue Lady shouted,
With one mighty huff!
“Every turn is the same
Every one then another,
And then you all sit there,
Yes there with each other.
I’m putting this down
This game I have ended,
Please just understand,
No don’t get offended.
Again and again
It’s all just the same,”
Sue Lady sat there,
And calmly explained,
“Look here, just watch
I’ll show you once more
You’ll see nothing happens,
As it’s done just before.”
Author notes
OK...Before you get too confused I got my dad's girlfriend a gift card for Christmas, but who wants to just hand over a card?! So i wrapped the card in 4 boxes all ribboned and bowed within each other (a box, in a box, in a box, in a box) and taped each seperate part (or stanza, if you will) to the corresponding boxes and had her read it aloud as she opened her present.....one box at a time. Creative? I'd like to think so, however, it makes for a very funny gift and gave an extra touch which I liked. I hope you all like it! Please comment! Thank you :-)
