Dear Mr. Soldier Man

Dear Mr. Soldier Man,
I've been praying for you
Since before you left home,
Over the ocean blue.

Every mealtime we eat,
I pray for you some heat
So you can keep the bad
Men from making me sad.

I know you might not get
This letter until I
Hear 'bout Jesus' birth,
But look up to the sky;

Even when you are cold,
Needing someone to hold
You in their arms and sing
As bullets start to ring.

I ask God each night and
Day that He will protect
You and all your friends so
Y'all can come home unwrecked.

Even when the bad guy
Makes your friend shot and die,
You still have friends like me
Who still want to stay free.

I pray God gives you strength
When you must shoot the kids
Who didn't want Jesus
To help keep on your lid

So you won't lose your head
Just like daddy has said.
I know it must be hard
But I sent you a card

I made myself with glue
And stickers and some love
With a verse to remind
You that help is Above.

Thank you for keeping me
Safe across the big sea.
Please don't ever give in
So you can help us win.

Dear Mr. Soldier Man,
My mommy bought some treats
For you and all your friends;
So stay safe on the streets.

It's quite what I child would seem to think of a situation like this. Good job.

This is a hard hitting poem from a child's perspective. I am sure that we can't even really begin to understand what all goes on in their mind.
