God Lit the Flame

Oh, yes, I have had all that riches can glean:
fine homes with designer décor,
impressive swimming pools for leisurely dreams;
Macy's designer clothes and more,
matching shoes, bags, furs and ornamental bling
draped me for ev'ry ball and chore.
Yeah, even costly cars with chromed shiny things,
excess bells and whistles galore.

I held prestigious corporate positions;
"driven" many would say of me;
school many times, under certain conditions,
to climb ladder rungs at no fee.
And, I was prim and proper, by traditions,
with integrity all could see
and pure honesty, as God requisitions.
Faith meant no other way to be.

But, at what cost to me did riches implore?
I was loved; no loss to me there,
yet it buffered me from the needy and poor.
I had no idea their wear and tear
and painful abuse, for they are much deplored.
As His Warrior, God put me there;
that injustice against them I should explore
and find ways to get respect's share.

I had lost all; my health, then compensation.
Know this: such a small price to pay
to feel their pain, grieve man's dark presentation:
dis-eases State doctors just flay;
HUD's site bosses threaten accommodation;
but there's nowhere to turn, no way,
just those mean streets. . . Satan's fine institution.
Fear: old, homeless, hungry, no say.

Could I have prevented this? Nay, t'was God's plan,
for He knew I'd speak loud and clear;
fight ev'ry wrong for we of His poorest clan:
He has chosen the poor as dear.
I tell our story and say, "Please do not ban;"
share it: for no man do I fear.
Read the series and send to hearts that will hear!
God lit this flame. . .  for you to fan.

Vol. III & IV will soon be added to "Critical Articles" list: keep watch and do God's Work by shouting your indignation where it does the most good. I Don't Mind Being Poor;

We do not need financial help. We need media attention in order to put a stop to abuse of seniors and the elderly by our Federal and State agencies. This abuse is life threatening! Both HUD and Nation have protection laws already are in place, but they are ignored as officials cover up vile treatment with lies, misrepresentation, even discrimination of disabilities: as in my case. Share our story with your State Governor, your State Senator, our President, local major TV network news and the Internet. Please demand a stop of government abuse of our seniors and the elderly.

    Nice poem. Well written, a match for any great poem on this site.

    However you've just highlighted another reason god doesn't exist.

    You pray and pray for the abuse to end, but it doesn't and when it's all said and done you forget all about your god and ask us to complain to the government authorities.

    Great poem. Flawed thinking.

      God Lit the Flame

      Thank you for commenting on the poem However, it would seem you've not read much of my work, for you would know that God always comes through for me and has more times than I can count. "Complain to government authorities" -- Well, God does expect us to do our share of the work, not just for self but for everyone going through the same injustices; He steps in where we can do nothing and is on the road ahead of us clearing the way. In light of His actions, I received word that I will be moving soon back to the peace of the mountains and forests. Yoohoo!

      May you experience the Lord, for it is the only way to prove His existence.

      Much love in Christ, BonnieQ

    You are of the US

    but other 'enlightened' democracies do the same thing! Good on you for writing in rhymed verse the state of things in this conscience poem of ease versus dis-ease.

      Thank you so much, Lyndon, for sharing your part of the world and its atrocities, as well as the encouragement. Your name floods me with memories of my stepfather, a very loving man: Lyndon George . . . Oh! And, thank you so much for the invite to he Winklings. I will be over to check it out; however, I'm sure how active I could be in the group. Still, I will do my best.

      By the way, we in HUD housing, at least at the complex where I live, experienced one of God's Miracles 2 days ago: HUD and attorneys descended upon this place and straightened out both the site management and the company for whom he works. HUD's State Investigator robbed me but, at least, HUD, is now investigating this place. My hope is they will do this with every location throughout the nation.

      Luv & hugs in Christ, BonnieQ

    I hope you will extend your Christian charity to the old and vulnerable of Gaza who have been pummelled to near-starvation and death by the sinful Israelis.

      Thank you so much, dear Sistah! We can use all the national attention we can get. So far, I've not been able to garner the media, not for lack of trying. Of course, I refuse to give up. After all, our Father put me here because He knew I would not keep my mouth shut!

    Bonnie, this is an excellent piece of poetry and a fitting introduction to your series on elder abuse. I can see you publishing this work in book form. The word must get out and it will. God is using you mightily.

    Love and hugs,

    Joanne

      Thank you so much for all your support, my darling Sis. As I've said to others, please send the segments out to all on your email list and any News reporters (TV, Newspapers) that you think might help as well. We must send out an exceedingly loud public roar in order to get the attention on this problem and, hopefully, effect change. While the Lord has used my voice, I am but one person and cannot achieve results alone: as much as I'd like to do it.

      Lots of love and hugs, SisBon

    Very good piece and it is so hard to see such a thing actually happening to so many of the aged. You are making such a strong message with this poem. And, you did an excellent job with the form, the rhyme and the presentation.

      Ah, thank you, my precious brother. Alas, if you read the segments "Uncommon Common Abuse of Seniors & Elder," you will find the abuse unbelievable and truly a nightmare for us older people to attempt to live through. There are two segments currently posted, a third one will be sometime this weekend, and the final will be next weekend. Each segment ranges from 4 to 6 pages each.

      I have communicated with seniors and elders all over the country; so, as I've said in the first segment, it is not just all about me. Most people have never heard of this type of abuse; though we all are accustomed to hearing about abuse by grown children, caregivers, carehomes and nursing homes. Fear of these government agencies truly keeps these people's mouths shut; but, you know me, can't shut me up.

      We desperately need people's help getting the word out there. Revealing the truth, in it self, will have a great impact on those suffering; for then they will feel hope that something will be done.

      Luv ya! SisBon

      Thank you, darling, for the vote of confidence in "God Lit the Fire." It is a true story, which actually I just edited again because I did not like how some of the lines worked, and I added a bit to the message below the poem. I realized, based on a review, that readers might think we are asking for donations; so, I included a disclaimer to the contrary. Nay, what we need is respect, our HUD and Constitutional rights restored and for the abuse to be stopped. . . quickly!

    Excellent Write & So Sadly True

    Wow you did an excellent job in expressing the hardships and heartbreak of the elderly that is for sure. It breaks my heart that it is this way.

    So many of us go on our merry way in life, only later to find ourselves in that same situation wondering why when we could didn't try to make a difference.

    I'm so glad you addressed this issue. Excellent job on your poem or the harsh reality of today and many of yesterdays and tomorrow's to come. Thank you for sharing with me and best wishes in the contest.

    Wishing You Many Blessings,
    Much Love,
    Kelle Marie

      Thank you so much, pretty lady, and I hope you will read the first two in the series "Uncommon Common Abuse of Seniors & Elderly" then pass them on to everyone you know (copy into emails); for surely there is someone who knows someone with clout. ("Critical Articles," list on author page)

      This abuse is not going to stop until the truth is presented to the public via the media. At present, I've had no success in getting the major networks to put a reporter on the story. It's truly a horrid nightmare they and I are living and it's deadly.

      Much love & hugs, SisBon

      Thank you, sweetie, for the kind words. And, I hope this is fitting for your contest, as I always try to enter contests hosted by my brothers or sisters in Christ. Oh, and I am spending the holiday at home alone: I'm well and truly snowed in and so is my daughter in Portland! Whew! What awesome weather this nation is experiencing.

      I pray that all who read this will read the series and pass them on, as the need for help is great. We so desperately need media involvement but, as yet, have not been successful in that sector. Surely, there is someone who knows someone who even knows someone else. The story is, unfortunately, the ongoing nightmare of my last year and a half; but, it is not all about me. . . rather, every senior and elderly person across the nation, for there are millions being abused by high places in both our State and Federal government agencies.

      Best wishes with the contest. There are so many great poets that I know your work will be cut out for you come time to judge.

      Much love and hugs, SisBon
