Why do you want him

It’s like putting a pot full of sweets and chocolate
Down on a table in front of a child
And saying “I’m just popping out for a minute, don’t touch the pot”
What do you think the child would do?

Him being hers
Is just like
Offering the pot full of sweets and chocolate
But with conditions attached to them

What do you do
When you know they’re no good for you
And you know your heart would most likely smash because of them
But you also just can’t say no?

What can you do or say
When only this one person
Causes you to smile
But also makes you want to strangle them at the same time

You tell me
How to explain to the people who care the most
That my feelings for this taken ex bad boy
Aren’t something as simple as I can explain.

I know how you feel with this one. I went after an ex who everyone warned me against, but I loved being with him, and needless to say, it ended in disaster, but I still had a lot of good times with him while it lasted. It was a lesson only I could teach myself through tragedy. This poem reminds me strongly of that want and defiance of what you know is best, simply because your heart wants more than your brain can deny. Some places were a bit choppy, but in all, this was a powrfully good write. Great job! Thanks for entering, and best of luck.
