A footstep upon the forest branch
Causes a minaiture thunder clap
And the bandicoot darts forward
To the surprise of its audience
Movement stops and both freeze
As if time had stopped suddenly
Except for the breeze that fluttered
As if hesitant to disturb the moment
Black eyes meet blue and a long nose
Sniffs the air oh so carefully studying
Gentle tiny paws pad slowly forward
Until the bandicoot is feeling truly safe
Than with a snuffle buries its head
Into soft leaves rustling hungrily
Like a kid tearing at a chip packet
Oblivious to the giant who gazed above
As this gentle, amusing miracle
So busily and lustily living life.

Wonderfully filled with imagery and felt wistful. A quiet feel about this hovered nearby as I read this. I read this part twice to get the 'feel of it'.
"Movement stops and both freeze
As if time had stopped suddenly
Except for the breeze that fluttered
As if hesitant to disturb the moment"
The senses here regarding: "As if...", the stopping; the freeze and the hestiance - all of these ideas shared something maybe. Would playing around with the editing in this part, interfere with your meanings you want to get across?

A beautiful encounter with this little marsupial. You have described this so well I can almost see the critter myself! Thank you for entering.
