Thunderstorm Impressions

Men bowling from Rip Van Winkle
Lightening dancing across the sky
Lights up clouds in a brilliant streak
Hotter than the surface of the Sun
Thunder rumbles, roars
All the while rain pours, belts
Something from Tim Burton
Never gets less spectacular
Eerie beauty
Scary and deadly yet can't look away
Like a moth attracted to a flame
Aware it's inching closer and closer to its doom yet can't look away
Stirs something primal
Senses alive; on fire
Electricity literally and figuratively in the air
Sparking the atmosphere with dangerous excitement
Intensity comes and goes as it gathers and releases
Jumps clouds
Let out ear-splitting, hair-raising, glorious claps and peals
Blinding flashes of light
Some miles away others terrifyingly close
Illuminating the ground at brief intervals
No warning for when the next one approaches
I lean forward out my window
Stretch my hand toward the sky and feel rain slide down my arm
The crazy desire to become closer to nature's lethal forces
And I am not alone in my stupidity
Countless others have ignored their safety in pursuit of an impossible intimacy
Yet logic holds no reason with them for they try anyway
The existence of such tremendous destructiveness is only comprehensible by witness
Nothing compares; everything pales in comparison
It leaves all who behold it awe-struck
Are you now answered as to why I favour thunderstorms above all else?

thunderstorms are indeed awe inspiring....until the flash of lightning strikes mere yards away from you...then they're downright frightening! Been there, done that! lol A very enjoyable read. Well done.
