Even darkness can be consumed by something far worse...
She heard of his death with a faint whimper through her heart-
no-one would ever think to suggest her world was torn apart.
She let a single, silent teardrop fall in tribute to his memory,
then carried on about her day, smiling jubilantly.
She knew well the pain hidden behind the mask that she created,
and wished vengeance upon his enemies she now supremely hated.
A smiling face was all they saw as they passed her by in the sun,
but nightfall invites all sorts of mischief and kindness can be undone.
She plotted and planned for vegeance as she battled silently,
with the memories let loose in sleep, always yearning to break free
from the prison she encased them in- away inside her heart-
so as not to burn reason away once the fires began to start.
Madness slowly crept inside with her unknowing of its presence,
and it sank into her darkened soul, a part of her very essence.
It lay in wait for the right time to announce itself to the world-
only then it would be too late to put an end to the hatred unfurled.
Dead eyes peered back from a shattered reflection, as she inspected
black lips, black eyes, HIS hair-while insanity constantly infected
her further beyond repair. She finished the stitches of her new life,
and walked out into the haunted darkness, filled with more than strife.
A trick here, some murder there, all to lure her lover's killer close
to where she hides in thick shadows of contempt, like a mourning ghost.
She cackles as the barriers break and true darkness runs its course-
lost in her grief, even darkness can be consumed by something far worse...
