[Here is where we
try to forget]
It's where walls,
Once white,
Darken down to grayish
black.
Where cigarette smoke haunts
E v e r y corner;
Ghosts of people who once
knew themselves
(Don't walk alone at night,
danger waits around
Every curve...
Don't take another step.)
Torn shoes kick about
the dirt and cigarette butts
litter the sidewalk
Just
like ashes.
(Our dreams of street light love
Are burned.
Cinders still linger in the air here.)
And when we try to
remember...
A thin trail of forgetfulness
covers the light lent to the blind;
S l i p s
Down the walls and
H e l p s
Ease the minds wandering the
streets ((alone)) at night.
...♥...
because the people here
Don't Smile.
Don't Feel.
Don't See.
They lean against the city
walls and
Clutch
Their cigarettes (so tightly)
Pretending that
they can't hear their hearts
(Just Scream)
Out for a rescue
Everyone tries to forget
their pain.
The dimness surrounding
them only helps to
Ease away
The pressure
Upon their chests.
It's just like
A body doesn't forget
The quiet taste
Of nicotine
After years
of
Deprivation
We can't forget our pain.
Author notes
And we stare
At the sky
For answers.
