In a world of brilliant light
She has ultimate freedom,
Caged in the darkness
She has no hope of escape.
She walks through fields of gold
Surrounded by the scent of summer,
Squatting in her own filth
Covered by a swarm of flies.
She dances with her Prince
A kind and gentle knight,
Who pins her to the floor
To sate his perverse desires.
Her golden hair falls
Like a waterfall of stardust,
To hide her bruised face
And terrified eyes.
Enchanted bracelets offer protection
Against all that would harm her,
Linked by heavy chains
To a cold stone wall.
She dines on silver plates
Studded with precious gems,
The food so rank and spoiled
Even the rats refuse to eat.
Her smile so sweet and kind
As her laughter breaks the silence,
Evidence of a shattered mind
And a soul utterly crushed.
Better to live a lie
Than accept the truth.

You did well twisting each verse here, made for interesting imagery. Very neatly penned, thanks for entering and good luck

I particularly liked the last 2 lines here. It kinda offered a twist at the end. Well done and good luck to you.
