I watched the flower petals fall
One by one they let gravity take hold of their fate
Much like I should've so many years ago
And even though the petals didn't seem to mind
I wanted to save every one of them before they touched the ground
Another detached from the head and started to float
They seemed so free, but independent they couldn't stand
Doomed to fail, their lives were coming to an end
But they must know something that I don't
Surely they believe they can live without the other
The last one was still attached, still living
It gave the flower a glimmer of hope, or the sight of death
Without its petals, what is a flower?
As I could see, a flower was naked without its clothes
The red with white that it wore so nicely, were laid out to dry
Seventeen petals passed away, along with the stem
The little girl who was pulling them seemed to frown
"I love you...." she could only whisper "not"
Who knew if the flowers could give her an answer
But the petals had given me mine, as I felt just like the flower

Wonderfully heart breaking, it's perfect. I could picture the flower as its petals fell down being torn from it and as there was nothing left but the core. It brought me tears and so much sadness and it was that kind of peoms I love that made me read it slowly.
"Who knew if the flowers could give her an answer
But the petals had given me mine, as I felt just like the flower"
Such a powerful ending and it as sad as the rest of the poem. You've taken the prompt to another level. Thank you for entering and best of luck.
Much love
Merry Christmas
