Not just on this one night
No need to worry about the future
Just do whatever suits ya
Yes be optimistic please
But understand there are no guarantees
The world will go on as normal
No need to make the promise so formal
Be good all year round
and then when you hear the sound
Of fireworks, and shots in the air
You can rest without a care
Because good things are coming for you
For all year long you have been true
Author notes
My comment on the poem prompt:
This is how I feel about almost every holiday. People are all of a sudden nice, all of a sudden wanting to be around loved ones and all of a sudden wanting to start off anew....you have 365 days every year to do just that, it doesn't have to be some special holiday every day we breathe is special!

Live life, have fun and don't let things get to you a good message and I think we all forget this sometimes.

Wow....
Yeah... it's so true... I agree with everything said here... why not make the promise to be a better person everyday?
It's a great idea! Revolutionary! (Or at least judging by the way the world works today)
Today is the first day of the rest of my life. Everyone can start again.
Lovin' It! -

Yes, it should be Happy New Day, every day, unfortunately very few people think that way. You understood Drummond's poem and passed your message through so very well!
Thank you

i agree! you spoke truth here for real. i have friends and family who are selfish jerks all year round then on one or two days of the year they wanna be changed, but just for that one day. then its back to being an ass again. i want them to read this

Yes, Drummond wants us to see that change is not just something that happens on New Years day, that it is up to us to make this change, but it has to be from within, not from some superficial desire. As you stated in your poem and comment on Drummond, you don't need a special day, special fanfare, that is more than likely destined to fail, real change comes out of need and understanding.
Thanks for entering the contest.

You are absolutely right. I have a tendancy to think things will be different from New Year's on. It can disappoint.

you're definitely right! somehow, just for that one night people remember that there are so many people around, people who just need friendship and a warm hug.
