Unwelcome White Christmas

Everything's gone wrong this year -
My sister's still in the hospital,
with her premie newborn son.
They won't be coming home for
Christmas at all, not until the baby
can feed on his own, from a bottle.

My aunt was coming for Christmas
from LA; not having seen snow in
over 30 years, she looked forward
to a white Christmas and prayed
for such - and it dumped in feet,
and she didn't even make it up here.

Mom and Dad are in Arlington,
keeping watch over my sister's
one year old son while her husband
runs back and forth to the hospital
in this awful weather...the I-5 is
clear, but the neighborhoods aren't.

Looks like we'll be having a split
Christmas, part here at our house
and later part at my sister's house.
If we don't get totally snowed in.
We still don't have a tree yet.
We may not even get one this year.

But Christmas isn't about trees and
decorations; it's about God and family,
and we're doing the best we can with
what we have...I think I'll run out for
a small tree, maybe a mini-tree that's
decorated already - I don't know.

I wish at least the snow would go away.
I can stand the cold and the rain, but
not the ice; I'll take the...the...the
easy way out: I'm moving south when
I get the chance, without trees and
decorative whatnots...

Back to posadas, and religious oriented
parties...ceremonies...things that give
life meaning.

Author notes

I'm really beginning to resent cheery holiday songs that have nothing to do with what Christmas really is about.

So sorry things weren't going your way. I hope you got out to get a small tree. You are right though, so many people lose sight of the true meaning of Christmas. Thanks for entering and best wishes

I can sympathize with this, last year my hubby was in the hospital, they did an emergency trach, didn't even know if he would make it and because of money, we (I, actually) were moving into a much smaller, cheaper place. I was running a dozen trips a day from condo to trailer in a van moving everything alone, then showering and making at least one trip a day to the hospital, all month long. Horrible! This year I am glad we are together, he is well, and tho times are rough and money tight we still have love and that is what the season is all about anyway, Love. This poem really tells it like it is tho for many. Great write and Take care.
