No one can tell you this
except him
and him and him and him and him
and then you may begin
to believe it
if no one ever told you
before
your grandmother did
or
someone like a doctor said it to your
mother
but it didn't matter –
not other girls saying it
they only do for you
to protest
or to insist
that they are
but one + one + one by one
they come and when they come
with this note in their hands
you can
hold on.

This is a very intersting poem. It's an intersting style. Good job.

Self-esteem is one of the most difficult things to grasp within oneself, and you have captured these thoughts so well.

Everyone should keep a note like this in his or her pocket. Keep it for yourself until your sure you won't forget and then pass it along. The most powerful things are really this simple.

Interesting take. I thought that a father would be one of the most influential in validating and cementing the self esteem of a daughter. But then, if all you had was a grandmother, I suppose they would be your mature support group.
Thought provoking.
