Dream or Nightmare

Sparkling
blanket,

shimmering white veil,

overnight
angel art,

travelers' travail.

Winter
wonderland,

neighborhood  mountains,

snow
sky high,

shovelers' demons.

Author notes

Dual viewpoints. Your choice..
Or perhaps not, for if you live
in snow country as many of us do,
"climb every mountain" takes on
an entirely new meaning,
as every street has mountains
linng the drveways!!!1

i recall as a kid loving those mornings after a fresh snow, dreaming of a day off school - spending as much time readying ourselves for the cold as we actually spent playing in the white stuff.

now, shovel the walk and try to flag down someone plowing a drive to have them catch ours.

well captures images evoking thoughts of days to come.

Hi, Rick! Oh, I hope those days take their time.
BUT, we are supposed to have mid-sixties this weekend!
      Hurray!

Our view of snow varies with the years, does it not?

I absolutely love this! I've written a few pieces on snow but this takes the cake! I live in the snow a good portion of the year...shovelers demons! I can relate!

      Yes, we in cold climes
      share the opposites.
I am lucky I can stay tucked inside now
after years of getting stuck, thawing the windshield!
and since you last were around I've taken to the pen
to do all my illustrations. Of course, with some fun
      with effects in photobucket, too.
      And notice, also entering contests!!!

This is cleverly done. I like the way you turn it around at the end.

      Thank you!
      The illusion has been
      more than beauty, but
      a big pain this year,
      snow overload from
any way one looks at it!!!

    Congrats on your trophy!

As always, your artwork is amazing.

Each season holds it's own duality. I guess it would be up to the individual to decide which side their angel/devil resides.

Not much snow in my area yet this year so the novelty has not worn off yet for me...I guess I have global warming to thank for that.

    Congratulations for the trophy!
Winter has given many travellers a hard time this year, when all they want is to see their loved ones at Christmas. Your poem shows the beauty of snow with two short statements of the flip side, the difficulty. It is lovely in the woods and mountains, but a hardship on the roads.
Many blessings for the new year!

      Thank you, Margaret.
Christmas day in the USA a bit of a reprieve for a short time
for travelers, then more snow again to complicate travel.

May the new year bring you both contentment and excitement!!

Definitely shoveler's demons! I admit it is beautiful...if I clear my head of all my reservations towards winter....which I don't want to do.

The poem is very balanced 2-1-2-1 line separations, each single line has 5 syllables, which helps with the unified feel of the piece.

My life is one of dualities,

I like the graphic, the second especially, the frame seems to fit it really well. Icy blue, with that solitary shoveller, standing, reaper-like, and now I notice the devil's tail! Very creative...with the dark and lighter sides to the graphic. Metaphorically, this is maybe your best graphic and gives an even greater depth to the poem. One of those graphics that yell for me to write a story...

Snowing again, will change to rain later, going to be a mess...definitely the devil's work!

    Exceptional.

Hi, Mayne! thank you for such a careful look.

It was one of those I-should-have-gone-to bed-already moments.
My buddy had intended to leave for a two and a half hour drive
early morn, but my weather watching and searching ovenite
told me that it would be better to wait. So I looked out the
front door, turned on my amber lights----and that glorious
moment, the untouched scene, fantastic glittering in
the lights, as if each flake were sending a coded
message, "Look at me. I'm not like the rest!"

And then early morn news opened with
"junk yard on 41" a tragic description
of car upon car hitting those already
      immobolized, passengers helpless
inside, then a parade of tow trucks
      hauling off mangled cars. Happily,
the people were luckier than the
      cars. So then the angel/devil
      image formed in my mind!

The duality just wanted to be emphasized.
Love the keyboard, lines taking form just
as I had visualized them! Rather like magic,
touch and space, almost A-team-like, when
      a plan comes together!!!! (paraphrased.)

Thought the first graphic should be
rather white, simple, with more emphasis
on the dividing one with the frame, once the
premise was set, the contrast made known.
Enjoyable to find you saw all those things!

Time now to get lots of chicken prepped
and seasoned and into the oven!

      Merry Christmas Eve!

Here we don't have that Winter sight, not in Antwerp anyway, but I could picture the scene you show here.
I liked the angel/demon picture, it does go with the poem, the good and bad side of lots of snow.

      Hi, Mariza!

      White. white, white here,
but pretty demonish on the highways
      and for the snow removers.
      Ironic that something so beautiful
      can be so lfe-threatening.
Nice the view from the inside out!

      Thank you!

Kathy, I was still in the deciding process,
leave it or let the snow wash it away!
So, you made the decision for me--it stays!

From inside in a warm house,
      a different viewpoint
      than outside wielding a shovel!!

Mountains of snow on every street!!

      Thank you!
