Dear Mandy

I wish I had the ability
to be happy
like you do and try to
teach me to be, as well
and fail, naturally, for my heart
spends most of its time
trying to lock itself in a Converse shoebox
(it's an expensive heart: it used to demand a
freezer
from a very very specific brand - keep it
in a deadlock
will you, Mandy? I don't really want to
feel).
So dear Mandy, or should I
call you Amanda, just for today?
I want you to know I feel just fine
for the world is going to die anyway
and the world is going to love anyway
and the world is going to be happy anyway
even if you
fail the task of
distracting me from things like
spider webs and the beauty of trashcans
and this pessimistic view on life
that you so despise
for I do know, really, how you
want to cure me; show me beauty in
more ordinary things like
rainbows
smiles
laughter.
All of that. Am I right?
So dear Mandy,
I'm warning you now (for I really do like
my specifically branded freezer)
There's no chance
I'll
turn
normal
anytime
anyday
soon.

But don't worry.

The world will despise you
no matter what.

And so will I, dear Mandy,
even though you never did
anything wrong.

I don't quite know how to pinpoint what it is about this poem that I love so much. There is something about the way it is written, the style is somewhat similar to something I used to enjoy writing. I love the wording, I love the flow or rather jolty lack of it. The last few lines were a perfect ending. I really do love this. Great work.

ahhhhh this is so brilliant (coming from a manic depressive) it's refreshing to know there are other crazy people in this world.

Ok, I am done laughing...oh, never mind...still giggling! and probably will be everytime I remember this poem, and I am sure I will remember the poem, and I wonder what kind of freezer your heart used to demand. That bothers me a lot you know? I must know what brand it is...but anyhow, this is totally the sort of thing I wanted for this contest, it's totally silly, original and contains some interesting ideas about what therapists try to do.

I'm glad you liked it! I wasn't sure whether it was exactly what the contest was asking for, so thank youuuu!

(And the freezer was from Siemens. Model GS12DA20GB )

I thought that was really clever and amusing. Well done.
