but I thought to myself, “This lady can’t sing.”
I was focusing on notes she couldn’t quite find,
and timing which dragged just a little behind.
I watched as the audience squirmed all around.
Many were whispering, some even frowned.
I was considering how she had butchered the song,
when it suddenly occurred, I was listening wrong.
So, ignoring the tune, I watched her perform.
Who says all singers should have to conform?
She sang out the words she had hoped we would hear.
Her conviction overshadowed any presence of fear.
She sang with such vigor, excitement, and poise.
I began to appreciate this otherwise noise.
She won’t likely sign any record deals soon,
but my heart was touched by her emotional tune.
Her enthusiasm overcame being slightly off-key.
I had learned a great lesson, my mind was set free.
I watched people pass when the service was done,
unsure what to say, trying not to make fun.
Her smile didn’t waiver, as she stood there alone.
Her faith was convicting, her spirit had grown.
When I praised her delivery, I saw her heart melt,
as I thanked her for sharing the passion she felt.
She started shaking my hand and wouldn’t let go.
“I’m not the best singer. I really do know.”
It was her way of praising the Savior and Lord.
God doesn’t care if we find the right chord.
Author notes
When sound becomes music.... This is a true story... oh my, it was like an "American Idol" outake, but she was so convicted, so passionate, so spirit-filled... she changed my thinking. It's not always about talent, it's also about the depth in which you believe what you are saying (singing). She inspired me with her passionate desire to share the words to the song.
I don't even recall the song, but I remember her conviction, and her willingness to set
herself out there, despite critisism, and to share her belief. That's what having faith is about.

Negative: i dont really have any criticism
thanks for entering -
You know, this story is quite touching and inspiring. I love how much more important it is to look and listen to a person's message and see through the 'conventional' ways people precieve art.
Thanks for entering.

it was hard to sit through, until I changed my attitude... her gift wasn't singing, it was sharing her faith - I admire that - Kevin
