Merry(?) Christmas

Christmas is supposed to be
A time of cheer and for joy
A time of Santa for the kids
As they open their shiny new toys

But Santa can’t always deliver
And my kids, much to my dismay|
Will just have to do without such this year
And with old toys and games they must play

This year of divorce was a struggle
And hard on my wallet, no doubt
With bills taking all of the money I make
The new toys, they’ll just do without

I pray for the kindness of strangers
And familial love far and near
To help me to put a smile on their face
And to see that they don’t shed a tear

My best is all I can offer
It appears there’s no assistance in sight
I’ll give the best Christmas it’s in me to give
All I can do is what’s right

And hope that my kids take no notice
At how meager their Christmas will be
And take heed of the love that their daddy will give
And hope they return love to me
