I saw a brave man today
he killed a deer
with his bare hands.
That held a gun.
He walked tall
man the hunter provider.
Hiding behind a tree
skulking like the thief
that steals life.
It’s the thrill of the hunt
the stealth of the chase.
Said the man through a telescopic site
that glistened with blood.
Its my right to bear arms
he shouted.
At the dead bodies that could no longer hear.
I kill to eat, I eat what I kill
chanted the man with a gun.
As he stalked a supermarket trolley
that nearly got away.
I do it because I like to kill things said another man.
I walked away
I couldn’t argue.
The hunter had claimed his latest prey.

I don't think this is what you're after, but it's what crosses my mind when I think of animals and nature.

Of the entire piece, this part sticks out the most for me:
"I kill to eat, I eat what I kill
chanted the man with a gun.
As he stalked a supermarket trolley
that nearly got away"
I think there's something in it that almost seems to taunt. What an ironic twist: taunting the hunter...it's often the other way, huh? Then there's your imagery there...almost humorous. "supermarket trolley"? Now that's a new one for me. Nice way to put it. Perhaps the natural world owes you a wink for this one? (smiling). I like it.

Actually, just what I did have in mind, since Nature has her despoilers; death is natural, and there is a food chain, but we tend to ride roughshod over all the Natural Rules. Thanks for entering.

What a most powerful and vivid piece, very deep and full of meaning. Such a sad piece about society too.
Best wishes in the contest.
