Stormy Weather

            Summer sends storms streaming rain
Wild winds blow waste, clogging drain
            Lightning bolts like laser bright
            Keep the cloudy skies alight
I watch it all from my back yard
            Checking fear and breathing hard
Storms drive on and skies will clear
            Lighning flashes, none now near
            Wild wind subsides, silence now
Tranquil feelings, storm a distant glow.
Where do they come from, up above?
Are they sent  with nature's love?
We are shown such awesome power
            Pouring rain, no gentle shower
            Flashing sky, with rumbling thunder
Nature's power gives cause to wonder.

A lyrical look-see into the eye of the storm and the ly of the calm after it has torn through the sky. You portrayed well both its power and the way it may make us feel, albeit temporariliy, overpowered by its forceful nature. It's a cosmic clash of ions dancing their energy with a laser light show and sounds in stereo dear poet.

The summer storms have been a regular feature of our week ends for seven weeks in a row now. Steamy for a few days, a wild storm or two over the weekend steamy for another few days, one day clear and its all starts again. I am not going to watch the light shows tonight.
I jus want a night with undisturbed sleep.
I do appreciate your comments and it is something special to watch, the power of nature on the loose.

In this part of the world it is snow and ice while you have your thunderstorms. It is a nice day as I am writing this. Thanks for showcasing your talents!!

Mother Nature has something for us all. I am pleased that we do not have snow and ice here. I enjoy the 'laser light shows' when the storms are around but would not enjoy the cold. These old bones freeze up in the cold. Thanks for your great comments, I appreciate them very much.

Makes me think of tornados and flash floods. Damn good piece of work Bob. Great imagery and flow. Happy trails.

we have had a series of summer storms round about but we are the lucky ones. No wild stuff here at all but some wonderful light shows in the skys around us. Flash flood warnings are current just up the highway a bit. We have a cloudy day, no rain yet and nice comfy temperatures. Many thanks for your comments, my friend.

Ah yes, nature is not always kind and glorious. You describe well the lightening and thunder of nature's more temperate hues. Such emotions does she have...alby

Hi Alby, the reason this poem exists is that we have had a run of stormy weekend, six in a row, and each went its way with no damage to our place at all. I appreciate your comments and thoughts, thank you for them all.

Fantastic! I loved this and it really showed that the storm was indeed wild and wreaking havoc across the land. Beautifully put. On line 10, you have 'storm,s' and not 'storm's. An excellent description of one of natures most awesome spectaculars. I love storms, but i have not seen a good one in years. This reminded me of the beauties we use to get as kids.

We have seen some beauties up this way recently but have been lucky the bad bits hit elsewhere. I will make that change. It was an edit that was not completed. Many thanks for your observant comment.

Stormy weather is so dreadful. The great Nature's power generate fear in most of us. What a relief when sunshine comes back!
I've enjoyed this nice and so melodic poem.

Greetings and happy holidays. Have you a beautiful 2009!

Nature at it's most powerful. I sometimes stand out under the veranda when we get a storm and just watch Mother Nature's light show Well penned Bob...you have captured it perfectly

We always watch at least some of the light shows put on by nature during a storm. It's magic. Appreciate your comments a great deal, thank you.

The power nature displays at times makes me feel so small and insignificant as I watch in awe. We have been lucky this season as the major storms have passed us by.
Mant thanks for commenting my friend. I am pleased that our winters are not as severe as yours.

Indeed it does give cause to wonder, for nature is indeed full of so much beauty, whether storm or sunset, it is all so very beautiful...

Liking you alliteration, one small suggestion, change "rubbish" to waste to maintain the alliterative feel in that line..

    Enjoyed this a lot..
    Cheers
