Help!
O holy angels!
In the night wind,
Silence
The noisy branches;
My child is sleeping.
Spread
Your mighty wings
Beneath the palms.
Comfort
This tiny Child,
Already bearing pain.
Ease
His weeping and
Sorrowing over the world.
Silence
The noisy branches;
My child is sleeping.
O holy angels!
In the night wind,
Silence
The noisy branches;
My child is sleeping.
Spread
Your mighty wings
Beneath the palms.
Comfort
This tiny Child,
Already bearing pain.
Ease
His weeping and
Sorrowing over the world.
Silence
The noisy branches;
My child is sleeping.
Author notes
Inspired by a Brahms song, opus 91, number 2, "Geistliche Wiegenlied" ("Holy Cradle Song"), the "third" Brahms lullaby, about the baby Jesus. In researching the texts for writing these poems, I discovered that there is at least one more lullaby by Brahms, but it's one I'm not familiar with.

It is beautiful. I love it when a poet makes a trip into another's perspective - you seem to have taken something special back into your own world from that.
