DVD terror placed on replay
another nuclear toadstool
clouding the apocalyptic fantasy,
diversity in doom
perfect entertainment
for Saturday afternoon.
Died in the mind
from a thousand imagined arsenal arrays,
radioactivity not so bad
when it only glows on screen.
Never will happen, all pure fiction,
pretending terminal earth
a silly movie director’s creation
to sell more tickets.
Rumblings of rattling saber buttons,
nothing new,
OOPS, somebody vaporized a city,
at least it wasn’t mine,
darn, there goes another one,
thank god for commercials
offering radiation suits and body bags,
thankful toxic levels of pollution in air
ruining view of detonations.
Grocery shopping futile means of diversion,
only canned goods left
from the increasing atomic desolation,
hope it stops soon
don’t want it to spoil the fall television season.
News spewing global holocaust predictions,
if it wasn’t for looking forward to super bowl
there’d be nothing good left to hear.
Chugging the last available beer
seeing warhead missile becoming clear
in living room mirror,
lifting up can as farewell toast,
oddly happy the apathy will soon disappear.

This was an odd one for me. It was almost like a perfectly spherical egg in a carton of a dozen 12 grade A regular eggs. It just stood out. The thought behind this and the idea were well thought through and played. I'm not sure of the POV this comes from, but it is definitely a new and interesting style of writing. Good job, thank you for entering, and best of luck.

Yay! This is what I, personally, was looking for in this contest. There was a certain level of humor tinged with violent reality that left me breathless. Interestingly, there was a bit of internal rhyme, something that normally I simply cannot tolerate, but I found it perfect for this piece.
Very nicely done! High marks from this judge! Thank you for your entry and good luck in the contest
