The Twelve Strays of Christmas

In the first three months of winter
my gifts of love would be:
hot food and warmth and shelter
with health care plans for free.

In the next three months of springtime
my gifts of love would be:
some sturdy shoes and jumpers
and T-shirts, one, two, three.

In the balmy months of summer
my gifts of love would be:
a weekend in the mountains
and a trip down to the sea.

In the cooling months of autumn
my gifts of love would be:
a daily picnic basket
placed beneath a tree.

So my twelve strays of Christmas
might find a little cheer,
to ease their daily struggle
each day throughout the year.

The words "with health care plans for free" caught my eye because, of course, nothing's free except the air we breathe. Of course if you want to put air in your tires, most filling stations charge! I tried to use a free one the other day, but apparently at -10 deg F. the pump doesn't put out any more pressure than the tire already has! When the weather gets this cold you can see all your tires getting flatter.

Give me four gifts of summer with trips to the mountains and sea... let someone else have my jumpers and T-shirts, thank you!
