I have fallen from many horses since I was young .
My father used to joke that I was a cowboy
who never learned how to ride.
The horse would turn when I was day dreaming
and I would hit the hard ground struggling
to regain my lost breath.
Another lesson learned
that would have to be learned again.
Eventually I learned to ride
because I always got back on.
It is hard to do sometimes.
You have to shake yourself off
and remount the horse knowing
you will fall again.
Most likely it will be painful.
Sometimes the battle is not won by how good you are
but by staying in the fight when all seems lost.
By dusting yourself off
cursing silently and remounting
until you learn to ride.

This is a wonderful expression of childhood memories and lessons learned that we carry on over into adulthood. I can relate to the horse back riding! I love this piece of yours, Jeff!
