A numb discovery

Expecting
Preparing
Bracing for the moment
When family will unravel
Siblings take sides
Conflicts arise
And my heart sinks
Under the weight of my burden
To keep family together
It's not fair to them
I don't think of myself
This was coming
And I stopped denying
It would happen eventually
Dad told me yesterday
Mom is filing for divorce
Is this real?
I am numb
This is not a surprise
It was dragged out
Like the Christmas tree every year
Except this is for real
I am sad for what will happen now
Merry Christmas

Author notes

I just talked to my dad last night and he finally told me what was going on, cuz I knew he and my mom were at the brink. 27 years...

I'm sorry this is happening to you, but you've captured the moment of this so well in your poem. I hope things will turn out alright.
