a harmless little, crafty toke,
though in my study I must hide
so no-one sees me glassy-eyed.
I puff a lungful, then one more
and watch the ash float to the floor;
my head feels nicely wrapped in wool
and so I take another pull.
I glance up at the ticking clock
and note the 'tick' precedes the 'tock'.
I watch the second-hand go round ~
a fascination quite profound.
Rememb'ring now my PC's on
(the reason why has somehow gone)
I think I'll have another puff
and that perhaps, will be enough...
The screen is moving by itself,
now...what's it doing on that shelf
so far away from where I sit?
It's quite a puzzle, I admit.
I feel as though I'm looking through
a sort of tunnel, spout or flue...
my stripey PJs seem to be
embarking on a weaving spree.
I lift a hand before my face
which seems to drift through time and space
I marvel at its lack of weight
and count the fingers, one to eight.
I look again toward that clock
and notice with indignant shock
that someone must've snuck in quick
for now the 'tock' precedes the 'tick'...
My chair and I are flying free;
it says, 'One more!" and I agree
but sternly warn: "Stop fooling round
and get me back upon the ground."
It seems my chair has other plans ~
I'm forced to grip on with both hands
as round and round the room we go,
my PJs weave a storm below.
The PC and the clock are one
my PJs all but come undone,
and...
somewhere
through this
baffling
fog
I hear
the
ticking
of
a...
...cog...
Author notes
I've heard it said that folks who use this stuff often lose all track of time ~ it's as if it doesn't exist and a second can appear like an hour, and vice versa.
(Not that I would know, of course!)

amusing how time drifts of at the end of this particular piece tocking on an uptick for the downdraft code decoded

O M G - GREAT
this almost makes me high reading it - lol
I'm not sure what I like the best - tock before the tick, the flying chair but I think it defanitely calls for " one more" - lol
good rythum and rhyme - not too long and enough to make any one high I mean happy - well maybe both -lol

-
wow that must be some really good herb! Great write, I love your rhyming and the playful whimsy of this piece.

It's funny and good all at the same time. It was a nice little trip. I really like the flow to this too.
Ahh, I want some MJ now.
Nice work. -

I never got hooked on pot, and my advice - based on what's here and other places and other people - is still to resist it and try other think. I mean, is it really that bad playing football with your brother? How about watching sports? And how about telling jokes with your brothers and sisters? I hear pot kills serious conversation. Then there's the fact that it's illegal, jail, perhaps suicide in jail. Choose well and God bless you!
-
makes me wanna toke up... but it'll make me paranoid.. so best not.
well done.. i love this kinda write.
keep up the great work

That's cute.
Nicely written. I was thinking that MJ had to be Michael Jackson and had to see what else it could be. Made me giggle. -
Oh this was a wonderful read to come upon this morning. And to think I read it before my morning caffeine. You have this written so outstandingly that it should have won...

Every Stanza
an ADVENTURE! What a crazy and fun write and I can picture you smiling and perhaps laughing before writing every line.
Funny stuff...keep it coming.
AND DON'T CHANGE A LINE

Wonderful! -
And why is it that I suspect a right proper saint of a lass such as yourself has never been within a cricketfield's distance of a burning ganja log?
I love the mind dive... it certainly sounds like you've kissed the business end of a doobie, perhaps the allusion to eight fingers... a number which often fluctuates between three and nine when you're puffing the good stuff!
This was a delightful poem, especially to us, er, veterans. The entertainment value is strong enough here that another five or six verses, or more, would be a welcome addition.

I saw the title first, so I reached for my trusty Jar 'O Fun, filled a rimmer and went after it with a spark.
Needless to say it took three times as long to read afterward
This is a clever piece!
"Tick precedes the tock" (and vice versa) are awesome lines. Thanks for sharing

-
haha that was a fun trip, that's gotta be some good stuff
I'm sorry the contest was closed due to violation of site policies.

Thank God for the great write...
.... and the mind shifting sequence you have put in these lines.
Something you have missed is what I will add here.
At Holi time it is common in India to take MJ (Bhang) as cold drink (Thandii).
I watched a man under MJ intoxication with one foot on each side of a railing attempting to cross it.He must have stood like that for an hour or two before someone helped him out of the predicament.I could not stop laughing then.
Today,
To know your clock and PC becoming one, tick-tock to tock-tick does make me laugh wildly; A three cheers with an empty glass from far away. I would say congrats.

-
Applause. Great write.
