I’d watched him succeed at whatever he tried,
while all of my chances eventually died.
He liked to goof off, he liked to have fun.
I focused my time on getting things done.
In quiet desperation, my patience grew thin.
At the height of frustration, I finally gave in.
I threw up my arms, tossed ego aside.
I lowered my walls and swallowed my pride.
I asked him to help me understand how.
I’d embrace any wisdom he’d care to endow.
I’ve searched for so long to find what it takes,
but, I seem to keep making consistent mistakes.
My thought was; I just want to prove that I can.
If he taught me the steps, I’d follow the plan.
Looking straight in my eyes, he squinted to see,
as if he were searching for something in me.
He thought for a moment, then chuckled and said,
“Look with your heart, and not with your head.”
I must have looked puzzled, or dazed, and confused.
So, he told me the secret that he’d “always used.”
“When that which you want becomes that which you need,
you’ll discover how easy it becomes to succeed.
You won’t find the answer in how hard you try,
You’ll figure out HOW, when you understand WHY.”

and the fact that you must understand "why" you are doing something to be passionate about it... anyone can figure out "how", but people will follow your passion, not your logic. - thanks - Kevin
