One Of Us Is Missing

Hurry home for Christmas
there’s wonder everywhere,
the stores are aglow while Santa shows
and carols flood crisp wintry air.

At home joyful cards and greetings,
some new, some from way back when,
with a spirit of the season,
old friends reaching out again.

The scent from our fresh-cut pine tree
lit-up from root to the tip,
A seasonal show of bells and fake snow,
(that old fairy still can’t get a grip.)

The house is dressed with holly,
gifts and goodies of  all kinds and sort,
fat balloons and coloured streamers,
some old ones newly wrought

Hurry home for Christmas,
you know we all miss you so,
but there’s one thing I’ll be concealing
until its time for the candle glow;
I’m waiting until you get here,
to hang up the mistletoe.

I love this line especially, and the internal rhyme works so well, too.
"A seasonal show of bells and fake snow,"

This is heartwarming to read, and eloquently sums up the feelings your heart is holding...I'm not sure which option you have chosen, as you haven't put it in your authors notes, but which ever one it was, it has truly inspired your penning this Christmas

I was completely captured by the romance of this piece, and the emotion of missing someone...nice rhyme and flow, a beautiful poem, thank you for contributing to the contest

Now this is both beautifully written and very romantic! I just love the fine rhythm and lovely word choices. The sense of longing is great, too, and the last lines... "I'm waiting till you get here/to hang up the mistletoe."Well, that's love!
