Once I dared to dream
that I could spend all year a slug upon a couch
then immediately by a single New Year’s claim
suddenly become an Atlas at a gym I had never visited before.
So helped I reasoned to tell everyone I knew about this change intended,
course January Second came and after I got all the attention,
didn’t even come close to being ready to enter that door.
Drove by once, told everyone that I had been there,
how the layer of my explanation over lack of sweat escalated
each time somebody dared to ask about my resolution.
Ever since that happened three years in row
I have learned a valuable lesson, guilt feels worse when you know you’re lazy,
and the mind can create reality without an single shred of truth,
but the heart can’t always live the tale,
when it involves more than sitting on a couch.
Ironically, going to gym now every day after life threatening sickness,
stopped making promises, inspired by a greater need.
Meanwhile savoring the lunacy of listening to all the other promises,
keeping a log of how long before they stop talking,
simply replying as I had so many time if asked, what vow?

This is such a true piece. The imagery and your witty sense of humor made it a delight to read. Best wishes in the contest brother.

Very true and sometimes the wake up call is what a person needs for them to change old habits and lifestyles.

So true. It's human nature, I suppose, and I like the humour in this piece. I hope the life threatening illness is no longer life threatening.
Thank you for entering my contest. -

Oh isn't this so true about New Years Resolutions.
I thought this part was my favorite,
and the mind can create reality without an single shred of truth,
but the heart can't always live the tale,
when it involves more than sitting on a couch,
Wow keeping a log of how long before they stop talking,
simply replying as I had so many time if asked, what vow? LOL
Yes I'm already now thinking about my New Years Resolution. I haven't decided yet. I know it was true for me that when my health got bad I started exercising myself and eating better.
Now journeying onto other narrow paths before me to hopefully build a healther sense of being.
Best wishes in the contest...EXCELLENT!!!
Blessings
Much Love
