With brows knitted and pursed lips
fashions from a frangipani blossom
A fragrant white ring.
Years later in a garden upon Baobab hill
The city of Wankie lying at their feet
as monkeys play in the centuries old tree
and gently blows the perfumed breeze
she watches an African friend
pluck a fragile frangipani
to teach her daughter to make
a fragrant white ring
Two diverse cultures an ocean ‘tween
linked together by a frangipani ring
Author notes
Indian in Africa
The similiarities in diverse cultures never fails to touch and amaze me.
This is in Zimbabwe wankie is now called Hwange there is a Baobab Hotel upon a hill with a massive Baobab tree hundreds of years old.

Wow, you are an amzing writer! I am deeply touched by your poem. It is amazing how cultures may differ in dramatic ways, and yet people are all the same in essence.
This poem..wow! If it is possible, I think it is even better than the one about Kuwait that I read!
You thouroughly understand the feelings you portry and the information you are sharing, and employ great vocabulary in expressing your thoughts!
Great and thanks again for entering!

wow. this is an amazing write. incredibly beautiful writing and exquisite, rich imagery. the sentiments were wonderful too. i like that you bring up an important idea - that there are similarities between us all, even if we come from diverse and different cultures/backgrounds/etc. a truly remarkable write. graceful, and lovely. keep up the fantastic work. thank you so much for entering and best of luck in the contest <3

how symbolic, a ring<-----circle that never ends. And I have smelled the intoxicating aroma of frangipani. I make a cake at Easter and Christmas with frangipani extract , very almondy . I am not much of a drinker (do like wine) and there is a frangipani liqueur whose fragrance is enough for me to become heady. This is so pretty and it says so much

What a gem you've written here Pari! Above or under the hemispheres, we are still connected somehow, with our mind and hearts beating with the same tune one time or another.

It is amazing how alike people really are... no matter where you look, if you look close enough there is bound to be a similarity. Through time such things as flowers, trees, the moon and sun and so much more have been a common bond for humanity. A wonderful poem and best of wishes as always... ~genielassie~

don't change a thing
Absolutely beautiful! Your words mental carried me to a distant shore for a few moments in time. A wonderful escape from the current frozen north. Another blizzard just moved off of us about an hour ago. The sun came out and the wind has died down. The visual presentation is outstanding. The words and style flow so well. In my opinion , I've enjoyed thiis poem more than many I've read of others before. Thanks for sharing this with me. God Bless and Hope all is well with your family,
Until, I can return to read again, keep penning. You really lifted a very difficult day for me. Perfect poetry in motion!

excellent, excellent. In terms of the whole package, I think one of your best poems so far. Enjoyed both the subject matter and form
The only quibble I would have would be with the line 'Two diverse cultures an ocean ‘tween'
which felt a little awkward. -
You've used an interesting metaphor (the ring) to illustrate the full circle of being. The unity of the universe is thus repeated in concentric rings of alliteration until perhaps, someday, we will all experience the full dynamic range of being.
A lovely philosophical thought. -
A wonderful poem, it shows clearly to remind us, for all our differances, we're the same. I love the way your poems capture, not just a feeling or thought, but a whole scene filled with a time, place, characters and all the thoughts they create.
Excellently written.

Is this based in fact or fiction? The words are vivid and the place names are definitely cool. Thanks for the kind words about my poetry. Ask if you have any questions about any of my work.
Keep on Keepin' on.

I can almost smell a fragrant flower I have never seen, your poem is so vivid. Does it smell like a gardenia? Are not people so alike all over the world, teaching their children the sweet wonderous tricks they where taught? I believe all beings are more alike than they are not. I wish a frangipani to see, and monkeys in a baobab tree. I enjoy seeing through your visions which are magical to me.

People are so much more alike than they are different… if only we could look past the irrelevant details to the important. Nice take on the subject ma’am!

We are so on the same page. I just wrote a poem to Angelica about being from distant shores and still sisters. This is very delicate and sentimental. Very beautiful. You always bring so many things into focus for me. Thank you for sharing this. I love your work so much. I seem to learn something new when I read your poetry. Many blessings to you!

Never heard of frangipani, but it sounds lovely.
I am with whims on this one... Sometimes we seem worlds apart, but we are all linked one way or another. And you have uniquely tied to cultures together with a scent of a flower and a ring of endlessness. Beautiful.

Lovely images.. but the sentiment is stronger I think.. the linkage of two cultures through a common shared interest. Too often we forget that borders seperate and define but that in many ways the dreams of hearts are very similar.. which can be seen in something as small as a blossoming flower admired by two different races and creeds ...much like all of us depend on the sun and the rain for sustinance no matter what border we stand behind.. nicely said...

The flowers are precious. I had never heard of that sort of flower before, probably because I'm from Oklahoma lol
This is beautiful.
Much love, Aimee
