The Inferno

As I looked around at the circle of my friends.
The world seemed peaceful.
Sitting laughing, joking playing cards.
Then the room began to grow dark.
The only light came from the room behind us.
The light was from flames that was engulfing the room.
As I looked across the table I watched a friend
disappear into the floor.
Walked over to look as she is still falling I
see her face began to melt away from her head.
The fire that she was falling into was melting her away.
I began to look around the room and watched one by one
friend's fall into the inferno.
Each one I watched their skin pull apart
in pieces from their bodies.
Until they were no more.
The fire was still burning behind me.
I walked into the room and on the walls were
pictures from their life.
In order I watched the flames attack the pictures.
The flames would hit one picture at a time.
As it did so, piercing screams erupt.
Screams so high my ears began to bleed.
I walked from one section to another,
just to watch my friends be burned alive again through their lives.
The heat was so intense that as I looked down,
my skin began to melt.
It was now my turn in the inferno of hell.
My pictures were left in the center of the room.
I saw the flames scatter across one picture and I could
hear my own ear piercing screams.
I am melting like putty in a clay shop.
My skin has now faded,
muscle and tendons now show.
I feel my body begin to crumble.
I see the flames glide across what was left of my life.
As a puddle forms around me and my once whole body.
It is I that makes the puddle.
That is me.
Before I am completely gone I feel my heart race.
I awake before I completely disappear.
It was all a terrible nightmare.

Author notes

I chose option #45. This is a real nightmare I had when I was still in jr high. Because of the morbid images of it...this nightmare will not leave my mind. Been suffering with the images for well over 10 years now. Hope this works for the contest

Oh HELL NO!!! death by fire and burning in my sleep. Now I glad I don't remember my dreams.

Well painted terrors. maybe by putting them here they may become less for you.

    Remember it's only a nightmare

The fear of falling, that seems to be a common dream or nightmare as in your case. I've had nightmares where I've been falling ( in slow motion ) and hit the ground hard, than all goes black and I wake up shaken. Not as morbid as your nightmare, a very well written dark poem. Take care and the best of luck in the contest.
