Remember

I remember when we started,
our mums all standing by,
crying as we walked away,
without a last goodbye.

I remember when I met you,
standing there in line,
searching for a partner and,
hoping you'd be mine.

I remember when you tripped,
and dragged me to the ground,
our bleeding knees brought shocked,
grins to the faces all around.

I remember how you held me and,
told me not to cry, you kissed,
my knee all better and brushed,
my tears dry.

I remember your fifth birthday,
the way you were so proud,
in your dress of lilac,
singing to the crowd.

I remember when she saw you,
dancing to that song,
grinding like a stripper, 'oh no!'
she screamed, 'that's wrong.'

I remember ever year after,
how you'd let the CD play ,
and we'd laugh so hard remembering,
how she looked that day.

I must admit I never thought,
that primary school would pass,
that I'd miss that days of
swapping lunches on the grass.

Each year brought us closer to,
those dreaded high school years,
no more nonchalance and laughter,

just grades and bigger fears.

I remember when she told you,

about that boarding school,

where every one had uniforms,

and fancy swimming pools.

I remember how you cried,

and screamed you wouldn't go,

you tugged your jacket on,

and ran out into the snow.

I remember when you left me,

to climb aboard the train,
this time there were no tears,

just clouds and pouring rain.

I remember how my jaw dropped,

when you walked into my class,

you smiled and said 'I promised
my time there wouldn't last.'

I remember your first boyfriend,
the way he held you tight,

I clenched my fist and bit my lip,

I couldn't stand the sight.

I remember when he dumped you,

you ran straight into my arms,

begging me to hold you and

keep you safe from harms.

I must admit, I never thought,
our high school days would end,

or that I'd ever say good-bye,

to my very best-est friend.

Each year sees us older,
filled with memories,

everywhere I go now,

there's always you and me.

So listen closely to me,

while we have the chance,

no matter what life gives you,

laugh and sing and dance.

I know that you'll be smiling,

when he breaks your heart,

bit darling there's always super glue,

and we never fall apart.

Remember to keep dreaming,
of all you want to be,

and never give up the hope,
of seeing all you wish to see.

Never stop your learning,
even know that we are done,

life is full of classes,

and you're brighter than the sun.

There's nothing left to tell you,

no more words to say,

except 'I'll miss you darling girl,

each and every day.'
