It's graduation day.

It was 18 years ago
I sat in a kindergarden session
finger painting pictures
and learning alphabetization

I met friends upon the playground
some of them are with us right now
back then all I wanted was to have fun
but our new lives start now

All through out school
there were many things that went on
there were fist fights and break ups
we should have taken a new course called drama 101

All this time none of us
wanted to ever grow up
we wanted to just be kids
but now comes the time we must become adults

Parents are busy looking for colleges
worrying themselves about our futures
they hate to even think about it
but there babies are now entering adult hood

For some of us it could be the last
and for others of us we may move on
there are friends we will never see again
and friends who will be there till the end

I stand here on this tearful day
knowing how hard I worked
I hold the key to my future
in this rolled up certificate I earned

Our child-hood days are now over
we must bid far-well to you all
We are trying to make ourselves a brighter future
adult hood has made it's call

I will never forget this moment
as I move on with my life
today I made the biggest step
towards my future and myself

We are now high school graduates
when we leave here please don't forget
remember those people who helped you get here
and hug those friends that you will miss

yesterday is long gone
and today is over now
tommarow I pray there will be sun
on each of you as you move on

I pray you will find happiness
in everything that you do
I pray that you will never forget
those people that got you here now

I pray you will find the courage
to become successful adults
I bid fare-well to you all now
our new lives have begun.

What a great write. It really does bring back memories.. makes me think of my graduation and all the friends that have come & gone in my life. Also makes me think of my brothers graduation this coming may and the part that i played in helping him become the young man he is today. Best of luck in the contest.

    Brings back memories

Do you ever break? Just finished commenting on your last posted and already here is another. This one is well written as all your other later writes are, emotions of sadness for a life that's about to change. Imagery tells the story well in this poem, graduation day blues. Good luck to you in the contest and thanks for sharing.

Reminds me of leaving school days, Now as old as your grandfather I can only say the real life lies before you to true joys with a chance to fulfill your passions and ambitions. You will see both success and failure; look at the star of success with an eye on the failure to guide you in life.
    Congrats as you enter Adulthood.
