Approaching the end of school feels like the start of something bigger;
Bigger than the grass-coated fields in the school’s backyard
And the sounds of triumph as you reach the end, louder than the trigger
Of the starting gun as you dive right in, trying to win so hard
It’s impossible to believe that the last swimming carnival was your last
And that you may never walk these corridors or stairways again
Well, you know it’s a cliché, but those six years went so fast
It’s funny to think: in such a short time, you made so many friends
But now the time has come at last, for you all to go your separate ways
And you make fleeting promises with all of them that you’ll always stay in touch
Yet, you still feel like you’re walking into a new classroom far away
Where no old mates can follow and you don’t know anything much
You take a deep breath and search for your pre-assigned place
In this huge, new world outside the school’s building, beyond that gate
And you try your best to fit in and keep up with the pace
While reminiscing on old school photographs, starting to accept fate
Remembering the graduation day, waving goodbye in the afternoon
Knowing that there would be no return, the path was sealing as you were walking
Funny how you can barely remember the bad times or the days that could not end too soon;
The clearest memories are the smiles from the days when your friends got busted for talking
"Goodbye class of 09"
