I love to sit up here at dawn
All by myself, while the others still yawn
Up here I am close to the Creator of all
Old Ones whisper to me, I hear them call
The colours in the sky are like the flowers
It will be clear and blue in a couple of hours
There are chores to be done but I have time
To sit a while here where I love to climb
I will be grown up soon with a tipi of my own
So sometimes I just like to be here alone
To watch the horses running wild and free
That is just how I want my life to be
Mama is nervous just lately and cries
Papa looks out to the distance and sighs
The elders sit in silence with faces so sad
They all speak of how things are going to be bad
The boys talk of how the hunting is slow
It takes longer now to hunt for the buffalo
Big changes are coming, that’s what they say
Heed warnings on the wind at the break of day
I am just a young girl and I don’t understand
Creator, I feel fear now, please take my hand
I pray for my people, although I don’t know why
There is a message up there now in an angry sky

This was one of those poems that almost seemed to write itself. I looked at the picture and the words were there on the page too. Once in a while that seems to happen and this was one of those times. Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting Noah.

Heartfelt write here and to hear the whispers takes a very special person with the love of their peaople to hear .As you hear and their call comes through your fingertips

Thank you for your comments. I am so pleased that you understood exactly what the feelings inside of a girl on the edge of womanhood, may make of all that is happening around her at the end of their free and natural way of life.

Thank you for you kind comment John. It is the way I think some young girl, soon to become a woman, may notice changes going on in the adults that she doesn't quite understand. It must have been like that.
