our fathers' came across the sea
in search of land and a living wage
they left the famine of their homes
and built this Celtic railway
they did mine in your mines
through the blood red cherry flames
dug the treasure that is coal
beneath your wave-like spindrift plains
following a Celtic railway
following the tracks that they laid
right through the heart of Illinois
following a Celtic railway
and i am riding on this train
we hum and sweep beside the grain
and i am riding on this train
going home
going home
and as i'm moving down the line
of modern towns and modern trains
i stop at crossings in my mind
and recall the tracks of harder days
following a Celtic railway
following the tracks that they laid
right through the heart of Illinois
following a Celtic railway
following a Celtic railway

i really like this a lot, i wonder who it would sound with a fiddle and/or a bagpipe it could really add something (i love celtic style music) i can see why this is popular it tells a true story of the past, best of luck in the contest

I can see this as a catchy song and I enjoyed reading the lyrics. You wrote this all on your own?
Thank you very much for entering
