Clam Shell

Missing image

Hidden beneath this collage of shade and color
her offering shining in the filtered sea sunlight;

purple and inviting, it holds no prizes,
but a glimpse of her cold blank face as she rises
to take you into the lasting dark.

She's uncaring of just what her prey may be,

fish or stumbling human, it makes no difference;
she educates all in the limits of mortality,
before she takes the breath and steals the soul.

Placing you away to slowly rot and feed her,

she settles back down on the cool ocean floor,
calmly waiting for her next foolish meal.

Author notes

The pic is mine, and I thought of it instantly when I got the prompt "clam shell". Although I went some weird places in describing it, hope it isn't too morbid.

Background is title color.

    Mm. Again, I find the second stanza some of the best writing in this piece. Such an interesting piece of work though. You catch a clever huntress wonderfully.

    The tone of this piece reminds me a lot of myself in my younger days. It is a hart hitter and I am impressed by the style. The imagery and metaphors are very well done too. I can honestly say I enjoyed this fully.
