Where The Darkness Turns To Light

Missing image

We stopped right on the boundary,
Where the darkness turned to light
We had to walk on the path for ages
To the forest where ancient trees rest

It seemed such a shame to have gone this far
And not even move into the sunshine
But dad said I couldn't...
That it was only his turn, and not mine

I didn't understand what he meant
He said "no, I didn't think that you would,
But what's important is that you go back now,
Help your mother and always be good"

And then he turned his back to me
And started walking away down the path
I cried out to him as loud as I could
I ran towards him, but couldn't get closer

As he began to move into the brightness,
He turned around and called out to me
"I have faith in you, my son,
You'll be twice the man that I was"

Screaming with tears flowing freely
I reached out to him hopelessly
And I collapsed to the ground in a mess
As my dad faded into the light

He'd been stuck for years on the boundary
Where the darkness of life meets death

He'd been walking for ages on the path
To the forest where the dead go to rest

That's a great poem. It's rather sad, and so deep and full of emotion.
