Cauterized

From below, he saw the trestles
ablaze in Gothic flame,
where sparks of roguish laughter snapped-
...and arced its fervent blame.

The mottled sky flared ember red,
that streaked above his head
and spit its fiery vengeance
to singe the riverbed.

No corpse has ever stood so still
as he, who watched it burn,
then tossed the tin emphatically
beneath the marshy fern.

But there revealed, and brushed away
a tear that fell too late
that could not lend finality
to eyes that burned of hate.

Strong emotions in this one, Yem.

The subject seems to be lashing out in anger maybe or possibly regret or both. The title lends me to think he's trying to stop the bleeding or kill the feelings outright but his attempts fall short. Even though he feels regret it's too late...the damage is already done.

I just noticed this is in a list of your favorite poems. Will go have a look-see. It's always interesting to see which poems the poet/writer likes the most.

Dec. 15...that is pretty much an accurate date.

Your assessment is perfect. Ah bad memories.
