It’s not that your words
hurt me so much,
it’s that you want them to.
When you wield your tongue
like a bladed weapon,
designed to cut me through.
It’s not that being with you
makes me feel alone,
it’s that you always walk away.
It’s how you leave me
all hopeless and broken,
when I just want you to stay.
It’s not that you pushed me
and made me leave.
It’s that you didn’t follow.
No answers, no reason,
and no explanation,
all your promises so hollow.
But now my eyes
are open wide,
my heart safe from your lies.
The thing that really hurts the most?
That it took so long
to see through your disguise.

Heartbreaking, and so well told (actually one could say that the reason it is heartbreaking is, precisely, because it is so wonderfully well told!) Superb, excellent!!

Aww... So sad...
A compelling read, full of sorrow, hurt & realisation that love you give is not returned...
Its a bitter pill, but you've expressed it to devastating effect here...
Well penned, well versed, well done!!!
