I could write about your pretty eyes
And praise their beauty left and right
But such things have been done a hundred times
Such a poem would seem quite trite
Or I could write about your heavenly locks
And pepper your hair with flowery accents
But such elaborations would only serve to mock
The sincerity of my sentiments
No, I will write of none of these things
For such superficial traits are fleeting
But you do have one trait that always brings
A smile to me when a lift I'm needing.
And it's not your eyes, your hair, or your silky soft skin
Nor your face, nor any such shallow trait list.
It's the simple joy of seeing you smile again
Right before we kiss.
So when you see me look at you with that little smiling inflection
And wonder what could be the cause
I'm remembering that "you like a person for their perfections,
But you love them for their flaws."
Author notes
This was written for my fiancee. The quote at the end is a quote by her, it's one of her favorite things to say.
