It's Christmas time again!
The turkey's roasting in the oven,
Mince pies are ready in the tin,
The shopping's nearly complete,
Cards are arriving from friends far and near.
But what's that to do with the baby
Born 2000 years ago in Bethlehem?
We look with delight at the nativity scene,
Mary and Joseph watching over the child
Lying in the hay,
Stars shining brightly in the sky above.
How can it be that God who made the stars
Came to be born like one of us?
He must love us more than we can know
To confine himself to human form,
Then to die a criminal's death
When he had committed no crime.
Yes, Lord, I'm beginning to understand,
But what will it mean in terms of cost?
Surely I'll have to pay something,
For I don't deserve your love!
"No, my child, I have paid it all... that baby,
My Son, who was born in a manger,
Has given his life for your salvation,
He has paid the price in full
To win back a fallen creation.
All you have to do is believe
And trust my promises,
Confess your sin and commit
Your life to following me.
But don't keep the message to yourself -
Go and share the Good News ...
The message is for everyone to come
And receive the greatest gift - my Son!"
