Each year the icing grows thicker
around my layer,
while eyes become
more like candles
with flame growing dim.
Eventually my mind
will lose its filling,
then I won't remember
why I ever
worried about my cake,
just having a party
without stressing
over what was baked.

This short poem was deceptively deep; the cake metaphor well developed. Thank you for your entry. Peace, Liz

Whooooooooo..You have taken this prompt to great dimensions with this imagery..The cake a type of a metaphor for how we can change over the years from the issue of a cake, and just being glad to celebrate with one..Our values and perceptions with age of birthdays..the cake and fanfare is not as important as life and being able to celebrate another year, or event! Excellent creative penning here!
