Peaceful quiet, oh, serene nights
when solitude was left behind.
Love had finally found her.
Pure, innocent souls
that lay sleeping together.
She gave of her thoughts freely
for examination,
but nothing could help prepare
for the coming invasion.
Even without defenses
the raid began.
The nightmare awakens me,
and I find myself bound by chains.
I dare not speak
for I do not want to destroy you.
Sleepless nights now haunt my days,
and nightmares haunt my waking thoughts.
I am broken, but not yet defeated.
Someday I will conquer this plague.
Author notes
This is about being sexually abused by your lover.

The only thing I could think of that this might represent is a wife who got into a marriage that was not what she hoped it would be and is staying because she doesn’t want to hurt her husband. Interesting. Thanks for entering my contest.

It's actually talking about sexual abuse from a loved one. However, what you said would work as well.
