A Stranger to Reality

I self medicate; another inebriated adventure is awaiting.
Some times it pours inside my mind.
Lightning crashes, thunder storms are raging.
My thoughts are constantly spinning and screaming at me.
I loudly call out in frustration.
Screaming nonsensical gibberish I am trying to drown out the noises.
They dwell deep inside longing to be expelled.
All the while I am losing time unable to recall what has transpired.
I drown myself in alcohol once more.
Synapses skip, order has become oppressed.
So I continue to yell until I am numb again.
Looking languidly, I am unable to change.
I am just a stranger to reality.

Author notes

WARNING. This contest is completely unexpected. By entering, you are agreeing to the following terms of us:

- We have the right to make you write in any form/style/type of poetry there is on this planet. We will literally murder ourselves sometimes by trying to find even at least one bizarre form. But, then again, you may have easy things too. Or maybe not. You never know.
- We have the right to make you vote for other contestant. You may have to vote other contestants out, or vote to give contestants immunity, or even vote them president, or never vote for them at all. Again, you never know. We don't know either.
- We have the right to eliminate as many people as we want. We may not eliminate anyone until like the second last round. Or we may eliminate almost everyone in the first round and have the contest super short. Again, you never know!
- We have the right to make you write on any genre. Monkeys from another planet, hope, hatred, beauitful underwear. Please don't enter if you are easily offended, as you may have to write on some touchy or controversial topics. Or, you may not. You just can't tell!
- We have the right to disqualify you if we are not pleased by your behaviour, or actions, or something with your poetry (though, most likely not the last one). Though, this is unplanned, you still need to be respectful.
- We have the right to be completely honest with your work. Whatever we say is only said to help you improve as a poet.
- You can judge the contest anyway you want to. What ever you say is final and as writers we just have to accept that.
- We have the right to throw any twists into this contest as we want to, especially if is for our own amusement.
- Mostly, we have the right to make you grow as a poet, and enjoy yourself.

I, rerouni66 agree that I have read these terms of use and will hereby abide by the law.

My object was to write about a crane. I chose an emotional death that is repeated over and over again. I looked up the crane as a bird. it describes them they dance crazily, hop in the air with great excitment, and other times they doze lazily. I interpreted to be a psychosis. I was inspired by the movies Trainspotting and The Crow. My other inspiration was looking through a psychology book of disorders.

    yes.

I however, agree with ryan on the fact that some thins can be greatly improved -but with some re-wordin of phrases and close attention to line breaks, this could be amazing!

    Yes

I think the phrase "stranger to reality is really overused - so I didn't like the title, nor the use of the title in the final line because it took emphasis away from it - but I like how you displayed refreshing emotion in the cliche topic, very nice.

I also think some of your phrasing/imagery has potential to be worked upon and tweaked - I think you could really produce strong visuals and stronger phrases - but remember, descriptive adjectives are not what makes good imagery/phrasing.

"I self-medicate" was great for me!

    Please wait for Chandni.

    Great!

I really enjoyed this candid poem. It shows the darker side to reality. Sometimes we all need to escape from it, and you've depicted it in a succinct way.
