I picked you up
And held you
In my arms
You purred
I took you home
There was
Another cat
Already
You had to
Put up with
Her
Until she died
Then you did
Figure eights
Around my legs
Rubbing against me
And life was better
For a long time
Now your days
Are numbered
But you still purr
And lash your tail
Against my leg
And complain
When I've been gone
And burrow
Under the covers
On my bed
And pull my fingers
Away from the keys
Of this computer
With your paws
Until I pet you
So I will
Care for you
As long as
God grants
You
And me
Breath
And held you
In my arms
You purred
I took you home
There was
Another cat
Already
You had to
Put up with
Her
Until she died
Then you did
Figure eights
Around my legs
Rubbing against me
And life was better
For a long time
Now your days
Are numbered
But you still purr
And lash your tail
Against my leg
And complain
When I've been gone
And burrow
Under the covers
On my bed
And pull my fingers
Away from the keys
Of this computer
With your paws
Until I pet you
So I will
Care for you
As long as
God grants
You
And me
Breath

Thanks! In God's providence, she's still alive and purring.

Providence
is one of the coolest words I know. Divine providence... one of the coolest phrases I know... thanks for your kind words... yes, I know she is making the angels smile (or changing their style) right now... thanks - Kevin

dang it, this makes me sad. It's lovely, really. I don't say that about much.
Lines 6-12 are a little awkward, especially when continued with 'Then you did figure eights...' If you cut them out, you would simply have 'I took you home', and to anybody really listening, that would be enough.
God bless you.

Thanks. It helps to have someone else share a little. I hope she can last until after Christmas, anyway.

Moving.
I have always loved cats but have never been able to own one. I am glad for the joy that Mandy has brought you, and I am sorry for your impending loss. The joy of having a loving companion always entails the possibility of losing that companion. Life is hard. Caring is hard. But life is not worth living without caring.
