It echoed
as it bounced off the air conditioner
in the bedroom window.
The sound sent my thoughts
drifting back under goose down comforters.
I knew the cowering clouds
would protect me
from any sun spoiling my slumber.
Days like these were my favorite,
gloomy,
leaving a residue in tender eyes.
Slipping warm feet
into cold morning slippers sounded absurd.
Staying with last night seemed much nicer,
even cozy,
I could not have a one night stand
never had before can't start now.
Author notes
I have always loved those mornings were you can sleep in
and just let the rain carry you away back to your dreams.
